Both of these copied from the national bulletin Dagorhir Bulletin Board: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greeting From Pentwyvern Lord Sidrake, Speaking From on of the Elder Kingdoms that has gone through, and condinues to suffer from the Ups and Downs of member ship, the best I can tell you is beat in to the skulls of your members that the phone works both ways!! One of the bigest complaints i hear is "I don't know when we have a battle". These are the same people who don't know how to call their friends to get some information. (ie. put to gether a directory that every one can have). Other than that get some realy sharp propagnda. In the long run this will be one of your best weapons. Put together a flyer with contact info.,a set battle schedual (ours is the first sat and therd sun of every month with a court meeting on the last sun.) Now crank out that flyer like water, pass one or two to every person that askes you what the hell are you doing with that stick?. Make sure that your current members have several coppies to give to their friend. Ask to leave them in game stores, comic shops, college campus, ect, ect, ect. We even have a few posters coming out with this sort of info. When you tlee someone about your group have a standard spheal to give them, and make sure that every one knows what it is so everybody is giving the same info. When you talk about dagorhir the key is presentation. Chosing word that a layman would understand. Tell them just enough, if you try to tell them every thing they'll get board. Hope this has helped out some if I have repeted what others have said i'm sorry. I did not read the other posts. how ever if you would like, I would be glad to talk to you more about this. Feel free to drop me a line (tighearnan@aol,com) maby together we can come up with some new ideas that will benifit both groups. Talon ---------------------- Hail Sidrake, I'm sorry for swallowing your e-mail, I was still scraping mud out of the kyraxmobile this week, and with the thunder at both ends of the week I have been slow to reply. King Talon makes several excellent suggestions, especially about making flyers for quick and easy publicity. Here is my basic list of recruiting ideas, feel free to use any, none or all of them. 1) Make some posters and put them up in hobby shops, gaming stores, comic-book stores, and used bookshops. Make flyers with general info. about Dagorhir, Practice and Event information and a contact number to give out a events, clubs, etc. You can also include the www.Dagorhir.com website on the flyers and your e-mail address 2) Find people with similar interests at Gaming, fantasy, or similar clubs on college campuses, and hand out flyers. Renaissance Fairs and Conventions are also a great place to meet people. 3) Try to get a psa at a college or public radio station, a school paper or a local newspaper. If any of your members attend local schools or colleges, the newspapers are usually desparate for any kind of interesting articles. 4) Once you have a few folks costumed and fighting, get a local paper to come out and do an article on you guys (or a cable news show, etc.). Dagorhir can make a great visual image for TV too, like in "PM Magazine" or that Gucci article in the Akron paper about the Kingdom of Avalon. 5) Take a few folks to practice in a public park, you may attract a few walk ups and have an opportunity to give out flyers. 6) If a movie with a medieval or fantasy theme is coming out, or showing at a revival theater, go in costume. Give out flyers outside the show to anyone who asks about your costumes. 7) March in parades, offer to do demonstrations at County Fairs, Carnivals, or in Park festivals. Check on the rules with the organizers well in advance, and then work on weapons and costumes to make a good impression. 8) If a negative article comes out about your group, D+D, fantasy, or something similar, try to get the paper or station to interview you or your group about it. The publicity is good, and it gives you a chance to correct them. 9) Send us a picture of you and as many folks as you have, in costume of course, and we will post it, along with contact info. for your new Tribe/Realm on the Fledgling Realms page. You never know if the person you are talking to has friends, kids or relatives who would like to try Dagorhir. In other words, you have to sell, sell, sell. Carry flyers everwhere. Once you get a few folks interested, have them help with the publicity. Try to farm the High Schools and Colleges as much as possible. These will probably be your best recruiting grounds. It may seem at times that you have to play scout leader, but it's not all that bad. Okay, now you've heard from two of the older realms in Dagorhir, King Talon's Pentwyvern and me from the Aratari. How's about a little help from our newer brethren? Does Scion d'Ur of Angaron or Dagmar of Kansas City Dagorhir have any suggestions? Or are there any suggestions from the other realms? Kyrax the slow P.S. I think Mandrake has a picture of the Brigands from the ancient days. I'll see if we can find it...
