Black Cauldron Woods Battle based on the book by Lloyd Alexander This battle essentily involves 2 or 3 teams. Each team has one common goal. Posession of the Black Cauldron. One of the teams begins with posession of the cauldron, this team is thought of as the "evil" team and members should act accordingly. The sole purpose of the cauldron is to create undead warriors (generaly considered an evil act.) This is acomplished by placing the cauldron over a fire (a pile of sticks), throwing the body of a recently dead warrior into the mouth of the cauldron, and chanting the following spell: Bubble bubble toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble, Seep and soak and sear this soul, Make it mine for ever more. It's death shall make no difference eyre, For tis bound to blackness of the mire. So now arise this slave of mine, and do my bidding for all of time. Once created, these Cauldron Born must serve the one(s) who created it. Cauldron Born are mute servants, they do not even scream when wounded. They take 3 times normal damage and have the equivilent of maile armor. However, their deathlike state greatly reduces their dexterity, making them unable to dodge effectively. (Players must remember this while in combat) If actuauly slain, the soul raped by the Cauldron is free to return to Valhala. No resurection or healing is posible. Also the body can not be placed back in the cauldron untill it has returned to Valhala, and been slain again. Some important things to remember about bodies. Once slain several things can happen. The soul can return to Valhala after combat has moved off 50 feet, a healer or magic user can try to bring the body back to life, or the body can be carried off, either to a healer or to the cauldron. A body must either be caried to the cauldron or the cauldron must be brought to the body. BE CAREFULL when carrying bodies off!! These are real people and can still feel bumps and bangs. There is only one thing the Cauldron Born fear, the mighty sword Drydyen, which belonged to the former king but was lost when he left the kingdom. This sword is silver-gray and has a padded handle. (It is the only one in the kingdom like this) If they see this sword, the Cauldron Born WILL flee in terror at the sight, keeping at least a 10 foot distance between them and the sword. One strike from this sword will destroy a Cauldron Born utterly. The Name of the sword must be spoken while striking It is important for the witches to be relatively farmiliar with the rules of the Cauldron Born so they can explain. basicaly it boiles down to this: Cauldron Born are created by putting bodies in the cauldron. CB fight with reduced dexterity, ie, not dodging too much. If the CB are killed, they return to Valhala and are resurrected as normal living folks. The CB fear the silver sword and will stay 10 feet away from it if posible. The sword Drydyen (Dri-dee-n) can destroy a CB with one stroke. CB cannot be healed or resurected. Several points. THe destruction of the Cauldron is the ultimate goal of at least one of the teams. The method of destruction is a secret, but several people have read the book and know how to do it already. The magic sword Drydyen will be hidden in a secret location before the battle. The team which starts with the Cauldron should probably find a safe place to keep it. All of the outside of the Eckerd campus is our battle field. Valhala will be at a location to be determined.
