Ragnarok XI Great Hunt Rules

Ragnarok XI Great Hunt Rules

Hunting Teams

Teams will consist of one knight, two squires, and anywhere from two to six dogs. A knight can wear armor and use any weapons he chooses, but may not lend' them to anyone on his team. He is also considered the leader of that team. If he is killed, he counts for three (3) points.

A squire may NOT wear armor, and is limited to any two weapons of his choice (the following count as ONE choice: bow and arrows, shield, sword, javelin, spear, dagger, etc2E). If they are killed, they count for two (2) points. Squires may NEVER have more than two weapons on them at any time, and may not use armor.

A dog is limited to one blue weapon ONLY, and may NOT wear armor. If they are killed, they count as one (1) point each. Dogs may NEVER have more than one weapon on them at any time (except when returning trophies to Valhalla - see below), and they cannot use green, red or missile weapons.

The Prey

There are various beasts out there to be hunted, each with different abilities, strengths and weaknesses.

A stag will be identified by a white headband. They are armed with two blue weapons (antlers) and they cannot be harmed by missile weapons (they're too fast). They can take two (2) hits to each limb and the torso. Killing a stag is worth five (5) points.

A boar will be identified by a red headband. They will be armed with a greatsword (which DOES count as a red weapon, it's a BIG boar!), and they will wear armor. They take two (2) hits to each limb, and four (4) hits to the torso. Killing a boar is worth six (6) points.

A bear will be identified by a black headband. They will be armed with sword and shield (which cannot be broken by red weapons), and will be wearing armor. They take two (2) hits to each limb, and five (5) to the torso. Killing a bear is worth seven (7) points.

The Orcs

The hunt will take place in a valley claimed by a band of Orcs, who dislike the fact that hunters are killing THEIR animals. They will not cooperate with the animals, but they may try to save them, or even kill them to deny the hunters their prize. The animals see little difference between the Orcs and the hunters, and are equally antagonistic towards both. The Orcs are merely out for fun, however, and are NOT competing against the hunting teams.

Orcs are identified by their garish face paint, and will be wearing a shiny gold piece around their necks (washer). They cannot wear armor or carry shields, and they may only have ONE weapon each, although they are NOT limited by weapon type (see squires' list above). Killing an Orc is worth ONE (1) point each.

To claim an animal kill

Once you kill an animal, you can claim his headband as a trophy. To get credit for the kill, the headband must be delivered to Valhalla by a live hunting team member. If the team member carrying the headband is killed and it is stolen by another team, they can claim credit for your kill by delivering it to Valhalla themselves! The headband must be carried in plain sight and cannot be hidden on your person, and must be surrendered if you are killed to anyone who asks for it.

Orcs

Each Orc will be wearing a necklace with a shiny gold piece (washer), which must also be taken and delivered to Valhalla to gain credit for the kill. Like the animals' headbands, they must be carried in plain sight, given up to anyone who asks when the carrier is killed, and can be stolen and delivered by another team to gain credit.

Other Hunting teams

Hunting teams are free to cooperate or kill each other at their option. Ultimately they are competing against each other, but any type of temporary agreement between them (and treachery!) is allowed.

If you fight against another team and kill off one or more of their members, you can claim their weapon (in the case of a knight or a squire, any one of the weapons that the dead man chooses to surrender, but he must surrender one). Once these are delivered to Valhalla, credit can be claimed for the kill (where the dead hunter can re-claim it).Like Orcs and animals, the weapons must be carried in plain sight, surrendered upon demand and can be stolen by another team.

However, there is one difference: if another team steals weapons from the team who actually made the kill, they will only count for ONE (1) point apiece, regardless of who the weapon originally belonged to. ONLY the team that made the original kill of the knight or squire can claim the higher point value (three and two, respectively).

(NOTE: If for some reason a dead person's weapon is still being fought over in the woods or he reaches Valhalla ahead of his weapon, he will be unarmed. Teams ARE allowed to have a cache of extra weapons at Valhalla, as long as they stay within the limitations of whatever they might be playing. Therefore, a dog cannot pick up an extra greatsword, but can use an extra sword fif his is gone. Alternatively, they can simply wait until their weapon shows up, but no one is allowed to leave Valhalla unless they are armed.)

Valhalla

If you are killed, return to Valhalla. Once there, you MUST check in with the Heralds and then wait for as long as you feel like (ten seconds or ten minutes, anything in between, or even longer, if you need it.....). You may die as many times as you want, there is no limit.

If you are returning a trophy (whether it is headbands, washers or weapons), you must deliver them to a Herald and make sure your team gets credit for the kills (even if they are stolen), then exit Valhalla as soon as you finish. Only a brief rest is allowed.

A running total of all the hunting teams' point total will be posted by the Heralds, although it may not be perfectly accurate. This knowledge may be used by anyone who goes in and out of Valhalla for any reason, but cannot be the ONLY reason to visit Valhalla.

Tactics

Obviously the way to win is to kill as many animals as possible, although a significant number of points can be gained by beating up on other hunting teams. Always remember, however, that there are bands of Orcs lurking out there waiting for weakened teams, so it might be a good idea to form temporary alliances with other teams at times.

First, a word of caution: we have recruited some of the Aratari's best fighters to play these animals, and ALL of them will be tough to kill. The odds are good that they will damage your team severely before they die, leaving you weak and vulnerable just as you gain something to protect. In previous Hunts, we have had teams wait for others to engage and kill the animals, then swoop down and kill them all, claiming all the credit for the kills in the process. Teams can, of course, cooperate to kill them, but it is hard to split up one headband between two teams, and temporary alliances tend to fall apart very quickly and quite bloodily. It is a good idea to have a fast dog (runner) on your team who can deliver trophies (headbands, washer necklaces and weapons) to Valhalla as soon as possible, because if you start to accumulate them, it becomes more tempting to see your team as a target. Remember: they not only get the points for killing you, but they can claim all YOUR kills as well!

THE RULES

These rules are made for the enjoyment of all concerned, and if you think they're silly or unbalanced, then DON'T PLAY! Anyone found violating the rules will be asked to leave the game immediately, even if it handicaps the team he might be playing with. PLEASE be considerate, follow the rules (they're not THAT complicated!), and try to stay within the spirit of the game: Dogs are encouraged to bay and howl, knights to give orders, orcs to be obnoxious, etc. HAVE FUN!!!

Stags - Dog and Zack

Boars - Graymael and Baltizar (Crinan?)

Bears - Bain and Magnus

Orcs - Shindar
