While the photos are pretty good, in some cases there is a small variation
between the photo and and actual painting. I've included color notes to
help bridge the gap
between the photo and the actual painting.
16*20 bright cerulean sky, high contrast painting. This photo is actually pretty good. Done with a palette knife.
16*20 bright uniform cerulean sky, high contrast, the foreground orange bush is actually a little more muted in the painting. Done with a palette knife.
Rhineland 16*20
Pacific Island. 12*16 The painting is brighter than the photo, the purple in the sky more evident and the sand lighter than the photo. Palette knife.
Myakka State park, Fl. 14*18. A cool color high contrast painting, uniformly dark in the upper reaches of the water than is suggested by the photo. The actual yellows are brighter and greens more uniform. I think the photo picks up lots of reflection off of palette knife strokes.
Red birches. 14*18. The lighter streaks in the venetian red field are not evident looking at the painting. The paint is fairly heavy and this is light reflecting off elevated stokes. The birches are somewhat darker than the photo. Palette knife.
Green Birches, 14*18. The birches are somewhat darker than the photo. The upper green field is all green, the photo picks up light reflection off the more heavily applied paint. Palette knife.
Western Landscape. 14*18. The sky is all venetian red and the white streaks in the photo are actually reflections off of more heavily applied palette knife strokes.
Rudesheim I. 14*18. This is the abbey church in Rudesheim, Germany. This is one of three of a series exploring stylistic variations. Photo is pretty good. Brush.
Rudesheim II (a la Kandisnsky). 16*20. Photo is pretty good. Palette knife.
Rudesheim III. oil on canvas, 14*18. The venetian red sky is more uniformly red, the white streaks in the photo are reflections off the palette knife strokes.
Rudesheim IV 12*16
After Boudin, 'Maree Basse a Etaples,' 1886, 16*20 oil on canvas. The paint is a touch lighter/brighter than the photo. Brush. Cobalt blue sky.
16*20 oil on canvas, Florida sky. This was an actual skyscape I saw from our house one evening. Photo is pretty close. Brush.
16*20 oil on canvas, loosely inspired by Boudin. Softer palette, brush, painting somewhat lighter/brighter than the photo.
Florida Sky Marsh, 16*20 oil on canvas. The actual painting is somewhat brighter/lighter than the photo. The clouds have more white in them than the photo and the reflection in the pond is brighter.
