Romainmotier (at the moment the only church on this page, but it's a good one)
The church at Romainmotier is situated in a small valley WSW of Orbe close to the French border. This is an abbey site that dates from the 5th C, although the current church is largely 11th and 12th C. The 8th C monks first followed the rule of St. Columban and after the 750s Benedictine rule. The 3rd photo shows the church within the old city walls. The larger part of the church is the 12th C narthex. The next photo shows a side view including the 11th C nave. These photos are followed by two interior views.

The schematic on the left shows the footprint of the successive churches built on the site. The center green outline is the initial 5th C church, followed by the brown 7th C church. The black nave is from 990 - 1028 and the red narthex is 12th C. The schematic to the right shows the outline of the current church.

This last photo is of a tower gate to the church precinct. Romainmotier is a little out of the way but a charming small village in a nice countryside. There are several hotels and restaurants for those who want to linger a while.
